Why this matters
During OJT at the Office of the Vice President for Student Prosperity and External Engagement, the most common stall was not a big system failure. It was a printer or scanner that stopped at the wrong moment.
What I check first
- Is the device actually online and on the right network or USB port?
- Does the driver match the model, or is it a generic driver guessing?
- Is the queue stuck with a failed job blocking the rest?
- For scan, is the destination folder writable and not full?
None of this is clever. It is just the order that wastes the least time for the person waiting.
What I write down
If a fix works, I write the model, the driver version, and the exact click path. The next person does not have to rediscover it.
